So I have a little story.
My daughter, My wife and I just spent the last hour with a woman who was dying from a bad car accident out in front of our house. No seat belt, no airbag. I was first on the scene and my daughter ran and got my old EMT kit. Broken leg, lacerations all over her face, back, neck, punctured lung...Paramedics came and got her and whisked her away. I think she is going to be fine in the long run. Western surgeons can work miracles. ( As I write this part her brother stopped by to let me know that she is OK and that they were now setting her leg.)
She hit a tree going about 45 mph. Her head broke through the windshield.
She told me she was dying. She was. She was bleeding out internally and her mental functions were deteriorating rapidly. Like in the movies she said, "I'm thirsty." I had nothing to help her. Everything she needed was in the ambulance.
So I sit here writing this with my own daughter in a bit of a shocked state having watched that, left with perspective again.
It can happen at any moment.
So what are we waiting for?
When do we begin to live the life we know we deserve? Who is going to start that process? Who is going to give us permission to follow our hearts? Who gives us the "go-ahead" so we can cut the bullshit and live each day like it's our last.
See, we forget how close we are.
In Predicament, we do that funny little demonstration of how people die. Begging, with regret, pleading, hoping for another moment vs. a deep sigh and a surrender to the inevitable knowing that we'd done our best work and our families knew how much we loved them...
I saw a woman searching for the next moment of her life and she couldn't find it. It was fleeting. (Thank the Gods & Goddesses she has another shot at it.)
Don't waste another fucking moment of your life. That funny little demonstration was more real than I've ever thought, than I've ever considered.
Who needs to know that you love them now?- Call them.
Who needs to know that you are sorry you did that thing? Tell them now.
Who needs to know how you really feel? Say it.
The edge is always closer than you think. Does that make you want to hold back or does that make you want to show up more?
The fire department offered me a job.
I love all of you for everything you've taught me. Thank you.
Aaron
